I stand by my previous review. I gave the place a 2nd chance in fear that I was being a burger zealot or elitist burger idiot...I wasn't. Do yourself a favor, go to Wendy's or Portillo's or almost anywhere else and get a bigger burger in less time and for half the price. -Nate

Yeah the burgers should be good for the price you pay. Remember this is still fast food! Nothing new, so many of these joints going up and they are really a rip off. Over $11 for the smaller burger, fries and a drink. Get real, I can go to an upscale restaurant and get a much better (calorie wise and quality wise)! Don't waste your money people!

Greasy piece of heaven.. May be a little over in price but definetly worth it every once in a while! With fries on the side a small is more than extra with a double patty! I always get my drink filled up with fanta Peach. If you call in know that they make their fries when you get their and you wait 3 minutes but if you don't care about them being super hot just tell them on the phone you want them to start with it now.. That's it have fun

This is the best burger I have had! Also has amazing fries. What I like is a double cheese burger with a medium fry and a drink it is awesome! I get this every Friday

There are really few restaurants you can go to these days where the people working there actually seem to enjoy their jobs. The staff here was friendly and actually engaged. The food is a little expensive, but the burger was really good and they were generous with the fries. (Also, they actually had malt vinegar out with the ketchup! Yes!)

The food is fresh and tasty. The portions are large--especially for the fries. I order the small fries and there's plenty there for one person. The prices are high--I paid just over $12 for a hot dog, fries and soft drink. But, it's worth it once in a while given the quality of the product. Waiting times can be long as the food is cooked to order. Peanuts are on hand for free--which I usually snack on while waiting for my order.

I was there on Sunday 2-15 at about 4pm when one employee was leaving and another was coming on. First I had to watch the person cooking my burgers playing playing with the grease at the end of the grill with the spatula she was using to flip my burgers! There were only one other table there besides me but as empty as it was, every single table was filthy with grease as well as the whole counter along the window! Obviously nobody cleaned the tables all day as well as when they have the time to do it! It makes you wonder how filthy is the grill and everything else. The manager needs to be fired immediately!

Ordered a bacon Cheeseburger. Little fry and drink. 15$ later I received my food. Fries piled In bag made burger hard to retrieve. Ones my hands we're on it. The whole burger fell out of the aluminum foil and dissaranged itself at the bottom of my bag. After carefully picking all toppings out of bag I rearranging burger. I come to find out it wasn't a bacon cheeseburger at all. No Bacon. I paid the extra money for bacon. I let the employee know and her response was oh did u want me to heat up some bacon and give it to u on the side. Took a few minutes for other employee to come over. And he was very kind offered to refund money or make a new one. I was in a rush running errands needed a quick bite to eat. So I said no thanks but he did offer. Only good thing I can say about this visit....never again. Overpriced...

Greasy burger joint but delicious. You will have to work out for a week to burn this stuff off but go and enjoy.

My husband picked up a couple of burgers and fries for us. Big burgers! We shared a regular fry because it was a good sized portion. I had a bacon burger and it was a bit greasy but good charbroiled flavor. The fries were delicious with potato skins on them. I would most likely go back but it was a bit pricey.

Going in has always been good to me but I ordered online and it changed my pickup time to soonest time which I did not want. I called to ask them to change and they were very rude and said that they cannot change it. So I got there an hour after it had been cooked and ate my five guys cold.

YUM, when you're craving a burger, theres nothing better than a five guys burgers. Anything fresh and bought locally, I'm all over!

Dah fries. Always great. The Cajun fries will definitely require extra napkins to wipe your forehead.

Burgers Fries Drinks And a few other things. I went here for the second time tonight and I decided I really like it. It's a good honest burger, really good fries and a coke machine that is super fun to use. Everything is hot, fresh and while not good for me, tasty as hell. The first time I came here was lunchtime which is obviously the cool time to come and it was super busy. Dinner time? Not so much! Does this make me a lousy wife and cook? Nope, just a wise one who knows when there isn't a line. In the mood for a burger and fries? Get on down to Five Guys.

Damn good burgers. Five Guys does remind me of In-N-Out Burger because their menu is really basic. But I remember how my In-N-Out burger was a thin slice of meat and roughly 24 cubic feet of wet, dripping lettuce. And Five Guys is two solid beef patties with the toppings I wanted. I was very, very happy with this. I also attempted their cajun fries. They're thick and hot, both temperature-wise and seasoning-wise. Their flavor would bully Arby's curly fries right off the playground. They did taste way over-seasoned, though. I was seriously sweating as I ate them. In retrospect, I think I may have enjoyed their regular fries more. What's crazy is that I ordered a regular-size fries and not only did they fill the cup, there was at least another cup's worth overflowing into the bag. I have a healthy appetite, but I could only make it through half the fries before I was full. It's easily enough for two people. The total for a hamburger, regular order of fries and a drink was $10.51. Sure, that's more than you'd pay at McDonald's, but Five Guys tastes way better than most fast food joints. I was full and happy. And if you can walk away from a restaurant full and happy for less than $11, that's a mark of success in my book. Don't think of it as fast food. If you really want to eat ground-up horse meat for half the price, knock yourself out. This is legit food. Legit food costs more.

I like burgers, a lot. I like fries, also a lot. I drink pop, ok, again a lot. I can get all of them here and they are pretty good. My favorite Burger joint is Fatburger but obviously I am alone because the one in Orland Park closed down. That's fine, these burgers are good and it's closer to my house. And they have hot dogs. Even better.

Nothing spectacular. NOTHING to keep you coming back. Normal burger joint`with inexperienced workers cooking your food. . So many other better burger places and I consider myself the burger wiz

Every time I come here, I order something that is more than my body can handle. They ALWAYS give you more than what you think you ordered When you get a burger...it's A BURGER!!! Big with a lot of condiments on it that you'd place on a slab of meat that just got done cooking on your grill... And if you're going to order the fries, don't bother grabbing a handful of complimentary peanuts... A small order is enough to feed a group of high school kids. They stuff their fry containers with the crispy potato goodness...plus the fill half of a paper bag to boot. And, they have the new Coke machines, where you can choose from like 100 options...it was the first place I've seen that had one. If you want a great burger, go here! If want food that tastes like it came from a toilet...go to The Purple Onion

I have come to the conclusion that if you don't like Five Guys, there must be something wrong with you. Seriously, they know how to do burgers and fries right! Everything is made to order, so no stale burgers that have been sitting under a heat lamp for the last hour. I order the Little Bacon Cheeseburger "All the way" and Cajun Fries. OMG....pretty much my own personal heaven! They also have non-meat options like a veggie patty or grilled cheese so even vegetarians should find something great here! I don't come often, otherwise I'd have to invest in a new (larger) wardrobe, but Five Guys is a great treat when you're craving something a tad bit naughty!

Hear ye! Hear ye! That's a pretty good hamburger and a crapload of fries. Go cajun or go home.

Excellent burgers. I will say this place is just about perfect, as far as the food goes. My only complaints are that: -The buns are kind of soggy from how juicy the meat is -There isn't enough seating for the business they get -They don't have milkshakes (if they did, this might be a 4.9999999 star place) Otherwise, everything else is good. I recommend getting the cajun fries, and be careful which size you order. The large is very large, and the regular is big enough for two. Also, seriously, I don't know where they get their pickles from, but they are incredible. Try it. Highly recommended.

This is for the cajun fries. The fries are very good. I like their soda machine where you can customize your soda.

  • Colleen M.

Five Guys, how I love your greasy delicious goodness. This place is so generous with their fries. I'd recommend getting a small fry, even with a big appetite I can't ever finish them all. Burgers are a bit on the pricey side, but so worth it.

As much as I did not want to like this place, I must admit that the burgers here are terrific. However, I was a little bit turned off by all of the self promoting propaganda thrown up all over the walls: magazine covers, newspaper article clippings, reviews, etc. all extolling the greatness of this restaurant. The food here speaks for itself.

I was way to excited to try this place out! Boy was this the most underwhelming experience I have had in quite some time. I had a double cheeseburger with bacon and mushrooms. This burger was small as hell (cost six bucks btw) and didnt really wow me. The fries were absolutely terrible!! They tasted like someone dumped a jar of seasoning on them.Five guys has reviews all over their windows that are just gushing with how great the product is? #fail!! The majority of these reviews were from like Washington state and other West Coast areas. They know absolutely NOTHING about a good burger let me tell you!! Save your money and go to Meat heads

This might be my new Burger Home. I visited Five Guys Burgers and Fries Matteson Location and it was so Tasty. This was my first time trying this burger joint, I read a few reviews from yelp and decided that I should give it a try. I took a lot advice from yelpers by ordering a small burger and ordering regular size Cajun fries- I'm so happy that I did because I don't think that I would have been able to finish my meal had I gotten anything bigger. I love the soda machine it was awesome! The only thing that I didn't like about the burger was the cheese, it was too cheap and too oily. HOpefully that will change in time. Also, I didn't give FGBF because I haven't been living long enough to be sold out on one burger place, once when I might my way around and find out that this is the best burger place then I will change my ratings.

Good consistent burger. Great fresh cut fries. But too expensive for a burger now. Prices have gone up at least twice since opening. Now over $10.00 for a burger, thats the little one, fries and drink. WOW thats expensive compared to smash burgers which are cheaper and have more chioces than five guys. Even go to Culvers and get a double combo for just over $6.00 and have money left over for an ice cream. Five guys taste good, but too expensive for a burger now.

  • Steven M.

This place is much better than Fat Burger down the street. The place is a little smaller, as is the menu. But the burgers are great. I loved the mushrooms and the crispy lettuce. The fries were probably the best that I have had in a while. Was it worth 20 bucks for two people? Probably not. But it wouldn't stop me from going here again.

I've noticed people calling this fast food. I'm not sure I agree with that assessment. Everything is made to order, the patties are fresh and shaped in store, the fries are hand cut (and they update constantly to let you know where they got the potatoes. Always in the USA.) There isn't a drive through. So tell me what other "fast food" place is like that? I expect to pay a little more for better taste and quality. This place by no means is expensive. My partner and I always get the double cheeseburger, a regular fry to share and 2 drinks and never spend over $20. That's a ton of food. I never finish my burger but my boyfriend has no problem helping out. There are always a ton of fries left in the bag. We bring them home and give one or two to the dog and my boyfriend munches on them for hours. If you don't want a double burger order the "little burger." And a regular fry is more than enough to share. I LOVE the futuristic soda fountains. It mixes the soda with the cherry syrup which is so yummy. I know soda is bad, and we don't drink it often, but I can never pass up a cherry coke here. I love the peanuts to munch on while we wait for our food to be made. The seats do suck but they aren't awful. The music rocks my socks. I really really love this little place. Try it, you wont be sorry. It's a good old school burger, and you can't find those anymore.

So this place is just like their Chicago locations (naturally.. being a chain and all), but I just wanted to post my $.02 for this location as I really do like 5 Guys burgers. The burgers themselves are fresh. One can say they're like Wendy's, but really they aren't. The quality is much, much better.. Where else can you get all those different toppings?!? A little grilled mushroom and some grilled onion.. It's just like icing on the cake! The price really isn't bad considering what you're getting, especially compared to Fatburger (sorry Kanye, I don't mean to spoil your place, but 5 guys has some of the best burgers ever!). I know some people are looking for something cheaper and have complained about that, but if that's the case then just go back to BK or Mickey D's. This place is on a different playing field! The fries are really fresh and some of the tastiest fries I've had. I believe they even were in the redeye for how good they are! I just need to start working out more so I can go more often!

The food was good. Greasy burgers and fries, exactly as I wanted. A bit pricey, but I think the food was fresh not frozen. Love the smell of onions wafting through the doors as I entered. I think the double burgers are where it is at. A couple dollars more, yes, but well worth it. Fries were piping hot and fresh. I also appreciate that they have such a big staff - at least I can see where some of my $$ is going - paying salaries! Yea 5 Guys!

SOOOOOOOOOO GOOD! You won't find a better burger. Not even In-N-Out.

  • Kaede B.

I love the burgers there! Although quite overpriced for what you are getting, its still really good. I am a french fry fanatic! My friends have always joked around that I can eat fries for dinner and be perfectly content. They also told me about the best fries...at 5 guys. I was pumped to try them and finally did. I tried both the plain and the cajun style ones. Again, for the money the fries are way over priced! I gave them several tries and was disappointed on all occasions. I know I am probably in the minority on the fry topic for this place. Some fries were over cooked, some under cooked, and everything in the middle. Its honestly the only burger place that I go to now and do not order the fries.

I love their hamburgers and dogs. They are AWESOME. While most people seem to dig their fries - I only rate them average. My daughter just showed me their super techo soda machine. Another awesome!

This is one of the places that sticks to a solid business model of doing just a few things and doing them well. The courtesy and warmth of the staff is terrific, especially given that this is a fast food place. The staff really goes the distance in making sure you are comfortable with how they do what they do----and with letting you know how they are different. What we loved is the freshness of the food. The meat is fresh, not frozen. All the rest of the food is fresh and crisp too. The french fries are a stand out as they are not frozen but cut from real potatoes on site. And they are terrific! I highly recommend the cajun dust on the fries if you like yours a little kicked up. They also have malt vinegar available that you can shake on the fries if you want more than the basic ketchup. The place is also amazingly clean. Sparkling clean in fact. Peanut allergies beware---they offer free peanuts in the shell. As a side note, I would recommend going with a double burger as the meat can get a little lost with all the great flavor and good things going on with the rest of the condiments. These are nice wide patties but they are thin so a double should be just the ticket to really get the full flavor of the burger. We arrived shortly after they opened, and we were glad we did. Not 10 minutes later, there was a line of people nearly out the door. Line or no line, this is a place I am looking forward to visiting again soon!

Simple one--Inside, Bare bones/Spare didn't like it! Burgers? Very flavorful Double with Grilled Onions and Grilled Mushrooms.. Good place to just grab a sack and roll out!

The bomb diggity. I love 5 Guys. I don't know what it is about the burgers, but they just taste so good every time I go there. It is a little pricey for burgers and fries, but I am perfectly fine with paying since they taste so good. If you go during lunch time though, don't be surprised if you can't find a place to sit. Pros: A great tasting burger. Large orders of fries. They have the new Coke machines. Cons: A little Pricey. Smaller location so hard to find seating if it is busy. Overall, some of the best burgers I've had from this style restaurant.

I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now, and with them popping up all over the place, it's getting hard to make excuses... When I worked at Jamba Juice Downtown Naperville, one moved in right next door. At the time, I was a vegetarian, but they catered to me with their grilled cheese sandwich. Huge ups for this-I disdain when places don't even offer vegetarian items, whether I'm avoiding meat or not, it's just a nice option. So I remember I really enjoyed their fries, but had longed to get my teeth into that burger I had been hearing so much about. My experience wasn't the most ideal way to experience it; on the car on the way to Milwaukee. I would recommend dining in for the experience, I just felt atrocious eating this thing in the car. Not that the atmosphere is anything to rave about. I'm never a fan of a place trying to overly sell itself let alone having to meander through a obstacle of boxes in order to place my order. Reviews are for newspapers and yelp reviews, plastering tidbits from them on the wall doesn't make me hungrier nor does it encourage me to order more. The location was also small, it's not like there is a wow factor when it come to ambiance, it just beats being confined in a car. They cook the burgers and everything else right out along the front line where you wait for your food which is always nice to see when you walk in. The fries are available in two options; cajun & regular, which they will continue to pour in your bag upon filling your usual "small" order. AWESOME. Make sure when you're ordering, a small burger is a single and a large burger is a double. As a first timer burger order-er here, I kind of didn't know how that little system worked out, but no worries, they should inform you upon ordering. They have a slew of toppings you can choose from, all which I believe are free. One of their highlights is the soda machine; computerized, just like everything else is on its way to becoming. The nice thing is that it carries a bunch of different options, so bring your soda appetite-or save the liquid calories and don't, just sayin. The burger was good. Again, I wish that I could have taken my time with eating it. I had no problem scarfing down the fries, but who doesn't? The burgers are all cooked to the same degree, it was juicy, and the toppings eased right into the burger-no complaints. I would easily go back, but I would dine in.

It was lunch time and I was passing by one the infamous Five Guys so I stopped in. No complaints about the food -- proably one of the better burgers I've had in a while. As others have noted I thought the price was a couple bucks too high. Everything is a la carte, there are no value meal equivalents. I got the smallest burger, the smallest fries and the smallest drink available and the total was $9.30. The order of fries, although the smallest size on the menu, is enough for 2 people. One of the toppings is mushrooms, woohoo. Negatives: I got relish on my burger and the relish seemed to have a strong overpowering flavor. The place is cramped and the seating is uncomfortable. And obviously the pricing.

I thought it was better then an average burger joint, but their fries were lacking. The burger was good, but i couldnt stop thinking its wanna be In & Out Burger . The red and white cups and color scheme, the simplistic menu, the red aprons (btw your missing the safety pin to close it) and it was quite expensive too... if you wanna be in and out at least charge their price Either way big hype over nothing.... i would get BK fries over theirs.

  • D H.

Not really sure what the rave reviews are for at this place. The food is fine but really not much more than that.Spur of the moment on my way home, I stopped in. To me it was pretty much like most other fast food burgers just more expensive. (I got the smallest burger and the smallest fry and my total was about $8.50.) The fries are good but I would have been just as happy with a Wendy's combo. Not sure what warrrants the higher prices here--totally lost on me. It's just another burger. They did give me a ridiculous amount of fries--not that I needed or wanted them. Oh and the decor of stacks of boxes functioning as a queue was lost on me.

Read about Five Guys being rated one of the best burgers around by Zagat's so my wife and I decided to try them out. Overall not a bad experience, but not one that left me feeling like I'd just had the best burger around. The burgers themselves are high quality beef and they have a plethora of toppings. Great for some, my wife loves the works on the burger, but for me just onions and pickle are enough. Can't say it's a bad thing they offer to throw the garden at you though if you want! The fries were so-so, had the cajun fries which were just the normal fries covered in a cajun blend of spices. Again, that's not a bad thing, and would have been maybe a bit better if the fries were crispy instead of wilted. I'm sure some people like them that way, I don't. As a lot of other people have pointed out, it did seem a decent amount more expensive than your average fast food joint. If all you do is burgers and fries (it's a pretty limited menu) you'd think they'd be able to do so at as good if not better price. I do give them props for having a bunch of soft drinks to choose from, including multiple iced teas. Would I go back? Maybe. Would I rush back? No, the $25 for two burgers, one fry and two drinks will keep me away until I really have a craving for another one of their burgers.

I wish I was the brain child behind what seems to be a simple concept. A small menu with a few burger choices, great fries all priced to make a profit but not so high that you won't come back. I tried to analyze what makes their burgers so good but wasn't able to put my finger on it. I was able to wrap five fingers around it however. You're probably going to drop $12 bucks on an average meal of burger, fry & drink.

Great Burger, juicy, full of flavor and the Fries are awesome! Pricey but good.

    (4)
  • Kristine B.

I thoroughly enjoyed Five Guys. The burgers are great and the fries are even better! Word to the hasty, don't say, "everything" without knowing what it entails. It's more ingredients than you'd expect. Some of which have as much business being together as the octomom needs anyother set of twins or litter or kids. Speaking of more than you'd expect, they give you an enormous amount of fries. Their small fry comes in a small cup, but then they fill the bottom of the bag the cup goes in with fries as well. If you're the type of person who gets excited about one or two fries at the bottom of a to-go bag (as I am), this is a special treat every visit!! Also, they give you peanuts to eat. As much as you can shel and eat while you wait for your food. It's great!!

  • Richard S.

Hear a bunch of talk about this place and happened to be in the neighborhood and try them out. Was a bit shocked at the menu when there is only little burger and big burger with 4 choices each. They did have hot dog, grilled cheese and others. So for almost $12 got a big burger fries and soda. I opened the wrapper and was suprised how small it was. A Wendys double cheeseburger is double the size and cheaper. I asked if they got me the wrong size...umm no. Too expensive for the small amount of food you get. Not worth going out of your way.

    (1)
  • Jason Z.

I'd probably give this place 3.5 stars, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Don't get me wrong, the burger is great, and so are the fries, but it's not cheap. It was $12 for a double burger and regular fry (these are the smallest sizes they offer). So you do get a ton of food, but if there is only one of you, and it's for lunch, it's way too much food for too much price. I'd say a cheeseburger and regular fry would be perfect for 2 people to split, and then it's a great deal.

i m the person that left a a nasty message about the hours (i made a big mistake) it was the location in Bolingbrook. I am siorry about the error.I will come in there and order lunch tomorrow!

  • Michael T.

To be fair, the food is quite good. The ambience isn't. The location is small and crowded. You are literally sitting so close that you hear everyone's conversations. You have to dodge people waiting to pick up their order just to get to the pop machine. It's aggravating. It's also expensive but sometimes you have to dish out cash to get good eats. The eats are good. If you are into crowds, go there. If you like to sit in close proximity to undereducated, overprivileged, teens from Orland Park, who brag about their pot usage, go there. If you want to smell like a grill, go there. But again, the food is good. Get the cajun fries.

    (3)
  • Patrick J.

Three stars because they don't have turkey or chicken burgers. The fries are the best 5stars. I don't eat beef.

  • L R.

I like culvers better. Try it out. The burger is home made. Ingredients fresh. Split fries with friend. No milk shake on menu just burger, fry, soda. Not a hang out spot. Not comfortable and cramped spacing. I don't get the peanuts... I think culvers and schoops burgers beat them but give it a try you might feel differently. I would prefer this over wendys bking or mcd's hands down no competition on that front.

  • Candace M.

The fries were really good. The burgers...just ok. I have definitely experienced better. Five Guys is waayyyy overpriced. For a burger, fries and drink $10...you can definitely experience better for less. That's all.

Great burger, too many fries and some cherry coke to wash it down. Nothing here not to like.

    (5)
  • Dave N.

4 burgers, 1 order of fries, 4 cokes, $40.00, and thats all they sell except for a hot dog, The burgers were good and so were the fries, but I don't think they were good enough for the high price, Red Robin is a far better deal, at least you get all the fries you want.

    (3)
  • Shelli W.

The fries are amazing. Burgers too. I love lots of topping on my burgers and this place does not dissapoint. Try going just right before or after the lunch rush. you may have to wait for a seat otherwise.

Go to Wendy's. Its the same thing only its half the price and you get your food faster. Five Guys is just bad news. I've been to this location and the one on 159 and Harlem. What a joke.

Good burgers and fries, but not worth it. Prices are way too high and restaurant is too small. Thought it would be iike In n Out but nothing close. I wish In n Out comes to Chicago.

I do a lot of traveling for work and came across this chain several years ago while on business in Washington D.C. Outside of In-N-Out Burger on the west coast, I thought that their burgers are one of the best quality for a fast food-like chain. And when I get back to D.C. I would make it a stop for lunch whenever I had the chance. I guess that since it wasn't so readily available to me and that I was able to charge it on a business account gave me a sense of wonderfulness about the chain than if they were in my own back yard. Well now they are in my backyard and I now realize that yes, the quality is still the same and it is definitely a good burger but as many people have pointed out, over $40 for a family of 4 for a chain burger? And now I wasn't on paying for it on a business account so therefor I paid it out of my own pocket made me realize that there is still a price/value that we attribute to burgers that can affect how we would rate a chain such as this. As I said the burgers are definitely good quality and better than your standard fast-food chain, but you will definitely pay a price for it.

The double patty cheeseburger for $5.50 was juicy and almost as good as the great hand cut fries. Free 15 toppings.peanuts in shell ,water. Enough for two people, for less than $10.00.

Great burgers and pretty good fries. It is a little overpriced, but I can deal with that.

how much money you got? well you can spend alot of it here.....and i mean alot for what you get..... starting off....the place is small....very crowded although it WAS saturday at lunch time, so i cant complain too much the food? was ok, but i have had much better....and for alot less.....a small cheeseburger over cooked.....fries...very good but how about a smaller portion so i can save a few dollars? enuff easy for two hungry people to share.... staff was friendly enough, but here is a novel concept, dont have a bazillion people working......then maybe i can get a burger, fries and drink for under $10.00.... like i said i wanted to try it after reading all the reviews.....but it will be my last trip....wow free peanuts.....big deal..... for basically a fast food burger joint.....there are way many more options around that wont rip me off....you could go right up the street and get sit down service, a burger, fries and a beer and not pay this much....but im sure it will survive......lots of lemmings around

Good burgers that try to satisfy those of us who crave In-N-Out. Tasty with plenty of options. Not the cheapest but better than most. The fries are also quite good. Quick service and there's always a seat available. Can take a while to figure out your order with the options and may be complicated for some people.

RIP OFF! Who puts a Chicago style hot dog in the deep fryer without mentioning it on the menu??? Not to mention it was $21.00 for my boyfriend and I to have lunch at a fast food place. The quality wasn't even that great.
